The Trans-Nzoia County Department of Health received a significant boost in its efforts to improve maternal healthcare on Wednesday with the donation of 25 beds and mattresses. The generous contribution comes from the Wafula Foundation and aims to enhance bed capacity in the newly operational Kijana Wamalwa Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Judith Simiyu, Chief Officer for the Department of Health and Sanitation, expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting its impact on the mother and childcare ward. “This donation will significantly increase bed capacity in our mother and childcare ward,” she remarked.
Despite this positive development, Dr. Simiyu emphasized the ongoing need for equipment, noting a deficit of around 105 beds and other medical supplies. “We call upon other well-wishers to join hands with the county government in fulfilling our goal of providing quality healthcare for all Trans-Nzoia residents,” she urged.
Philbert Burudi, Chief Operations Officer of Black Mint Africa Consulting Ltd, reiterated their commitment to supporting county governments in achieving high-quality healthcare. He elucidated, “Our aim is to improve maternal and child healthcare, ultimately reducing mortality rates in these vulnerable populations.”
Mr. Burudi commended the collaborative efforts with Governor George Natembeya’s administration, underscoring the positive impact on Trans-Nzoia residents. He acknowledged the challenges faced by county governments, including procurement delays, and emphasized the foundation’s role in addressing these gaps. Burudi concluded by urging the county government to ensure the proper utilization of the donated equipment for the benefit of Trans-Nzoia residents.
