Trans Nzoia gender chief officer Jane Wachwenge has emphasized the significance of showing love and support to children living with disabilities. Addressing attendees during the national Children Mental Health Awareness Day in Naisambu, Kitale, Wachwenge highlighted the importance of exhibiting care, providing guidance, and offering counseling to address the challenges faced by children with disabilities.
Moreover, Wachwenge officially launched the Trans Nzoia Parents of Mental Children, a Community Based Organization aimed at economically empowering families with disabled children. Encouraging parents to prioritize the education of their disabled children, she noted the availability of special schools such as St. Francis Makutano catering to students with disabilities.
Wachwenge also urged the organization to apply for funds from her department in the upcoming financial year to initiate businesses, emphasizing equal opportunities provided by the county government of H.E George Natembeya.

Furthermore, County clinical psychologist Daisy Maling’a highlighted the importance of seeking medical attention for children with abnormal behavior at early stages to address mental health challenges effectively. She stressed the need for parents to manage conflicts with their children to prevent stress and depression, which can have severe consequences.
Wachwenge’s advocacy for love, support, and education, along with the efforts of the Trans Nzoia Parents of Mental Children organization, underscores the county’s commitment to promoting the well-being and inclusion of children with disabilities.
