H.E Governor George Natembeya EBS

H.E Governor George Natembeya EBS is the current GOVERNOR for Trans-Nzoia County. He was elected in the August 2022 general elections and assumed office in October 2022.

He previously served as the Regional Commissioner of Rift Valley, holding a strong record in addressing security challenges. He holds a Master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Nairobi. An InfoTrak survey showed him with a 70% approval rating, highlighting his perceived effectiveness in governance.

H.E  George Natembeya is very passionate about human empowerment and community development. He believes that his experience and leadership skills provide him with the credentials to lead Trans-Nzoia County to the next social and economic level.

Education Background

H.E George Natembeya pursued his education with a strong commitment to academic excellence and lifelong learning: He pursued his undergraduate degree in Anthropology at the University of Nairobi, a testament to his interest in understanding human societies and cultures. Furthering his academic pursuits, George Natembeya attained a Master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Nairobi in 1999, showcasing his dedication to advancing his knowledge and expertise in his field. He attended the Kenya School of Government, where he honed his skills in public administration and governance. 

Professional Background

H.E Governor George Natembeya’s career journey is marked by a deep-rooted commitment to public service and a track record of leadership and effectiveness: He began his illustrious career as a Personal Assistant to the late John Michuki, Minister for Security, where he gleaned invaluable insights and skills under the mentorship of a seasoned leader.

Progressing through various roles, Natembeya served as a District Officer and later as Murang’a District Commissioner, where he demonstrated exemplary leadership in combating security challenges, particularly in dealing with the Mungiki gang. His tenure as Isiolo County Commissioner and later as Narok County Commissioner underscored his ability to handle high-pressure situations with tact and resolve, such as overseeing the protection of the Mau water towers and managing complex eviction processes.

From June 2019 until January 2022, H.E George Natembeya served as the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, where he played a pivotal role in addressing security concerns and fostering development initiatives across the region. Notably, Natembeya became the first high-ranking government official to resign from his position in accordance with the Elections Act, paving the way for his candidacy in the 2022 general elections.
