Trans Nzoia County Assembly Launches Contractor Audit at Kijana Wamalwa Memorial Hospital

The Public Accounts Investment Committee (PAIC) of the Trans Nzoia County Assembly has initiated an audit of contractors' work at the Kijana Wamalwa Memorial Hospital.

In response to growing concerns regarding the quality and completion status of ongoing projects at the Kijana Wamalwa Memorial Hospital, the Public Accounts Investment Committee (PAIC) of the Trans Nzoia County Assembly has taken decisive action by launching an audit of the work conducted by contractors. This move follows recent inquiries and observations made by both the committee and the Auditor General regarding potential shortcomings in the project implementation process.

Simeon Murei, Chair of the PAIC, expressed his dissatisfaction with the progress made by the contractors and highlighted the significance of conducting a thorough audit. “It is imperative that we assess the extent of the work completed and identify any discrepancies or deficiencies,” stated Murei. He emphasized the committee’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public funds allocated to development projects.

Echoing Murei’s sentiments, Eric Wafula, Vice Chair of the committee, underscored the importance of the audit in safeguarding the interests of Trans Nzoia residents. “This audit is long overdue,” remarked Wafula, emphasizing the committee’s obligation to follow up on the Auditor General’s findings to ensure that taxpayers’ money is utilized efficiently and effectively.

The County Executive for Health, Dr. Joseph Pepelah, and Chief Officer Dr. Judith Simiyu, reassured the committee of their unwavering commitment to upholding procurement laws and ensuring adherence to approved budgets. “We are fully committed to ensuring that all work carried out at the Kijana Wamalwa Memorial Hospital meets the highest standards of quality and efficiency,” affirmed Dr. Pepelah. He reiterated the administration’s priority of delivering value for the people of Trans Nzoia through transparent and accountable governance practices.

The audit of contractors’ work at the Kijana Wamalwa Memorial Hospital signifies the County Assembly’s proactive approach in addressing concerns related to project implementation and expenditure, ultimately aiming to enhance public trust and confidence in the county’s development initiatives.
