Discover the impactful changes brought about by Governor Natembeya's Ukombozi Campaign, fostering development and hope in Trans Nzoia County.

Governor George Natembeya has highlighted the transformative journey of Trans Nzoia County in his second State of the County address, shedding light on the monumental changes initiated under his administration through the Ukombozi Campaign.

Addressing the challenges faced by the county 18 months ago, Governor Natembeya acknowledged a sense of hopelessness among residents regarding the county government’s ability to champion their socio-economic development ambitions in the past government. He described the county as being shackled by poverty, disease, and illiteracy.

The Ukombozi Campaign, launched on August 25, 2022, with a revolutionary ten-point agenda, aimed at awakening and liberating the sleeping giant of Trans Nzoia. The administration developed the 3rd generational County Integrated Development Plan, embodying the Ukombozi Manifesto, with a primary focus on establishing a solid foundation for the county’s development.

Agriculture, recognized as the backbone of the county’s economic development, witnessed significant improvements. A free quality seed and fertilizer distribution program supported over 90,000 small-scale farmers, resulting in a notable increase in maize harvest. Initiatives were also undertaken to revitalize Agricultural Mechanization Services and address post-harvest losses.

Livestock value chains received attention through the acquisition of vaccines, seed driers, and the construction of a modern chicken slaughterhouse. Various projects aimed at supporting dairy, poultry, and fish farmers were implemented, contributing to enhanced productivity and income.

To foster value addition, the County Aggregation and Industrial Park, a KES. 500 million project, was initiated. The cooperative movement experienced substantial growth, with over 500 registered cooperatives across different sectors, playing a crucial role in employment and economic development.

Recognizing the importance of financial inclusion, the administration launched the countywide registration of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) in all 25 wards, ensuring affordable financial services for the residents. Governor Natembeya’s Ukombozi Campaign stands as a testament to the county’s revitalization and commitment to a brighter future.
