Learners from Machewa and Saboti wards in Saboti Sub-County received much-needed relief after the Trans Nzoia County Department of Education and Vocational Training disbursed bursary cheques under the Elimu Bursary Fund programme.
The initiative targets learners from vulnerable backgrounds, aiming to cushion parents against the rising cost of education and ensure uninterrupted studies.
Despite heavy rains and impassable roads in some areas, county officials pressed on with the exercise, demonstrating a strong commitment to inclusivity.
“No Student Should Be Left Behind”
Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Pius Munialo, one of the directors leading the disbursement, underscored the programme’s purpose:
“We are determined to ensure that no student is left behind. The bursary is meant to help learners stay in school and focus on their studies without worrying about fees.”
Mr. Eliud Lusweti added that issuing the cheques directly to beneficiaries was crucial in upholding transparency and accountability.
“This exercise is not just about giving money—it’s about giving hope. We want these students to prepare well for the national exams coming later this year.”
Partnership with Schools
The directors, including Mr. Peter Omonya and Ms. Pacifica, commended school heads for their cooperation in identifying and supporting the needy learners.
“We appreciate the headteachers for keeping the students in school. It has enabled us to meet them face-to-face and hand over the cheques directly,” said Ms. Pacifica.
The close collaboration between schools and the county government has been hailed as vital in ensuring bursary support reaches the right beneficiaries.
