Trans-Nzoia county is set to launch a major 10 day vaccination campaign to protect people from measles rubella, and typhoid fever.

Trans-Nzoia county is set to launch a major 10 day vaccination campaign to protect people from measles rubella, and typhoid fever.

Speaking at Kitale district hospital on Friday, key speaker of the event Binti Hamisi Sudi underscored the profound urgency and strategic importance of this campaign.

This efforts comes after a rise in measles and typhoid cases especially in children, Health experts attribute the rise in measles cases to disruptions in routine immunization during the covid 19 pandemic.

Hamisi said according to the world health organizations over 10 million cases were reported world wide in 2023 with a large number recorded in African countries.

Hamis said the campaign targets 90% measles coverage for children aged 9-15 months and aims to vaccinate children between 9 months and below 15years for typhoid free of charge.

The government has deployed mobile vaccination units to ensure that even remote and underserved areas are reached.

“Parents are encouraged to to ensure each child is vaccinated, she said.

Trans-Nzoia county the following numbers represent the targeted population for vaccination during the campaign in the sub-counties.

Cherengany sub-county 29,216 for measles and 97,915 for typhoid, in Endebes sub-county, 15,465 for measles and 52,976 foe typhoid, in kiminini subcounty, 30,968 for measlesand 101,320 for typhoid, in kwanza subcounty 27,904 for measles and 89,064 for typhoid and in Saboti sub-county 27,416 for measles and 86,798 for typhoid.

On her Pamela Semo Trans Nzoia County incharege community health called on all resident to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure their families are vaccinated. After the campaign an evaluation will be conducted to asses the coverage and Inform future health programs.
