Governor George Natembeya has announced a series of socio-economic projects aimed at empowering the youth in Saboti Ward, as part of his administration’s broader efforts to combat unemployment and boost local development.
During a meeting at the Trans Nzoia County headquarters on Tuesday, Governor Natembeya emphasized the urgency of addressing youth unemployment through innovative solutions. Central to this strategy is the Ajira program, which seeks to provide online jobs to young people residing in the county.
“The Ajira program is a critical step towards equipping our youth with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive in the digital economy. We are committed to creating a future where our young people can find meaningful employment without having to leave their communities,” Natembeya said.
In addition to digital job opportunities, Governor Natembeya highlighted a water drilling initiative in Saboti Ward designed to tackle the area’s persistent water shortages. This project is expected to generate employment for local youth while addressing a vital community need.
“Water scarcity has been a longstanding issue in Saboti. By drilling new wells, we not only ensure access to clean water but also create jobs for our young people,” Natembeya noted.
Another significant project announced by the governor is the establishment of a market at Muroki Center. This new facility aims to facilitate local trade by providing residents with a convenient place to buy and sell goods and produce.
“The new market at Muroki Center will be a game-changer for our local economy,” said Natembeya. “It will boost trade activities and make it easier for our residents to conduct business.”
Governor Natembeya also called for unity among the county’s residents, urging them to avoid political conflicts that could hinder development efforts. He stressed the importance of solidarity across tribal lines to achieve consistent progress.
“Political fights will not help us move forward. We must embrace unity regardless of our tribal affiliations. Together, we can achieve fast and sustainable development for Trans Nzoia,” he said.
The meeting was attended by key county officials, including Agriculture CEC Pharnice Khatundi, Sikhendu MCA Andrew Kutitila, and Saboti MCA Bonface Cheloti.
