The Department of Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change (WENRCC) on Monday engaged Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to provide an update on the status of the Financing Locally Led Climate Actions (FLLoCA) program. The session, held at a hotel in Kitale, aimed to strengthen understanding and promote collaboration for the program’s successful implementation across Trans Nzoia’s 25 wards.
County Executive Bonfas Wanyonyi and Chief Officer Dorothy Nyukuri, along with the Climate Change Unit (CCU) led by Focal Person Godfrey Wekesa, presented the progress and future activities of the FLLoCA program for both the previous and current financial years. The discussion focused on strategies to maximize the program’s impact on local communities, with emphasis on environmental conservation, water resource management, and agricultural initiatives.
Hon. Daniel Mosbei, Chairperson of the County Assembly’s Environment Committee (Kaplamai Ward), and Vice Chair John Makhanu (Sinyereri Ward) led the MCAs in seeking further clarification on various aspects of the program. Key concerns addressed included effective coordination between departments and the tangible benefits expected for local residents in the areas of environment, water, and agriculture.
The briefing served as a platform for building synergies among stakeholders, ensuring that FLLoCA activities are implemented efficiently and contribute to sustainable development across Trans Nzoia County.
