Resolving Decades-Long Land Dispute in Mowlem Through Dialogue

A decades-long land dispute in Mowlem sees progress as Governor George Natembeya's directive prompts fruitful discussions between disputing factions, resulting in an agreement facilitated by the County Executive Committee for Lands.

Governor Natembeya’s Directive Leads to Positive Outcome

A long-standing land dispute spanning decades in Mowlem takes a positive turn as Governor George Natembeya’s intervention leads to productive dialogue between conflicting factions. The County Executive Committee (CEC) for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, spearheaded by Jane Rose Mutama and Chief Officer Omari Ndiema, convened a meeting with the disputing parties at the county headquarters.

Following the meeting, both factions, embroiled in a struggle over a 40-acre piece of land, reached an agreement on a path forward to resolve the contentious issue. The agreement aims to ensure that all 67 households currently residing on the disputed land benefit from the resolution.

Mutama expressed optimism about the ongoing discussions, noting the positive outcomes already emerging from the dialogue. She emphasized the effectiveness of dialogue in resolving land disputes, highlighting its superiority over lengthy court proceedings.

Governor Natembeya’s directive underscores a commitment to expedite the resolution of land matters in the county, utilizing various means, including out-of-court settlements. The goal is to provide landowners with their rightful ownership documents or title deeds promptly.

Chief Officer Ndiema commended both groups for their dedication to resolving the matter, emphasizing the potential for this resolution to foster development and long-term investments in agriculture within the community.

The agreement reached signifies a significant step towards lasting peace and development in Mowlem, marking the beginning of a new chapter after years of conflict and loss of life due to the land dispute.
