Sinyereri Queens Triumph at Governor’s Cup 2024, Secure Ksh 1 Million Prize

Sinyereri Queens crowned champions of the Governor’s Cup 2024, winning Ksh 1 million in a landmark celebration of women’s grassroots football.

Sinyereri Queens claimed the title of Governor’s Cup 2024 champions, receiving a grand prize of Ksh 1 million during an awards ceremony held on Thursday at the County Social Hall. Their achievement marks a pivotal moment in the advancement of women’s sports within the county.

The runners-up, White Ladies, were awarded Ksh 750,000, while Undersan FC took Ksh 500,000 for finishing third. Fourth-place team Makunga FC walked away with Ksh 250,000.

“This victory means everything to us. We’ve worked incredibly hard for this moment, and the support from our fans and county leaders has been incredible,” said the Sinyereri Queens’ captain.

Recognizing Talent and Dedication

The event, attended by key county officials, including Patrick Gicheru, County Executive Committee Member for Gender, Youth, Sports, Culture, and Tourism, highlighted the commitment of local players and the importance of equitable distribution of prize money.

“Players are the heartbeat of these tournaments. Team managers must ensure the funds are used to reward their hard work and sacrifices,” Gicheru emphasized.

The finals, held last week, showcased exceptional talent, reinforcing the growing prominence of grassroots football in Trans Nzoia County.

The Broader Vision of the Governor’s Cup

Mr. Gicheru, speaking on behalf of Governor George Natembeya, stressed the tournament’s role in fostering unity, empowering youth, and improving livelihoods.

“The Governor’s Cup is about more than football – it’s about community and progress. By investing in grassroots sports, we create opportunities and nurture future stars,” he remarked.

The event underscores Governor Natembeya’s vision of using sports as a transformative tool for development and cohesion in the region.

Upcoming Men’s Awards Ceremony

The men’s awards ceremony is scheduled for Friday at the same venue, promising to further celebrate the talent and dedication of local athletes.

With such initiatives, Trans Nzoia County continues to position itself as a hub for grassroots talent, driving both individual and community growth through sports.
