Trans Nzoia County Focuses on Ease of Doing Business to Attract Investors

Trans Nzoia County is enhancing ease of doing business by simplifying procedures, promoting tourism, and supporting MSMEs through initiatives like the NAWIRI Fund to attract local and international investors.

The County Government of Trans Nzoia has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the ease of doing business as part of its strategy to attract investors and stimulate economic growth.

Streamlining Business Operations
During the launch of the second Trans Nzoia Tourism, Trade, and Investment Expo at the Kitale Golf Club, County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Trade and Industrialization Patrick Gacheru emphasized efforts to simplify business processes and eliminate bureaucratic barriers. “We are focused on creating a supportive environment where businesses can thrive and innovation can flourish,” he said, highlighting the county’s growth across tourism, trade, and industrialization.

Tourism and Hospitality Growth
Trans Nzoia is leveraging its natural resources and improved infrastructure to position itself as an emerging tourism destination. Gacheru highlighted key attractions such as the revamped Kitale Museum, Mt. Elgon National Park, and Saiwa Swamp National Park, offering visitors a mix of adventure, nature, and cultural experiences.

He also noted the county’s unique culinary offerings. “What sets Trans Nzoia apart is our farm-to-table experience, with hotels serving fresh produce sourced directly from our fertile farms,” he added.

Support for MSMEs
To address financial challenges faced by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the county has allocated 100 million shillings to the NAWIRI Fund. Chief Officer for Trade and Industrialization Omari Ndiema explained that this initiative is aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and job creation. “Through this fund, we’re enabling MSMEs to overcome financial hurdles, grow their operations, and create employment opportunities,” he said.

Expo Highlights and Investor Appeal
The three-day expo includes activities such as business networking, farm tours, and a gala dinner at Mt. Elgon National Park. Expo Chairperson Naomi Karani praised the event’s success, citing the diverse mix of exhibitors and activities that showcase the county’s potential.

“We plan to make this an annual event to continuously unveil and promote what the county has to offer in trade and tourism,” Karani said, emphasizing the importance of showcasing the county’s agricultural strengths.

As Kenya’s breadbasket, Trans Nzoia is taking visitors to coffee, dairy, and fish farms to demonstrate its agricultural prowess and unique appeal to investors.
