In a vibrant celebration of youth talent and athleticism, the County Government of Trans Nzoia, in partnership with Athletics Kenya, hosted the County Track and Field Championship at the Ndura Sports Complex in Kitale. The event brought together athletes from across the county’s sub-counties, offering a competitive yet inspiring platform to showcase rising stars in track and field disciplines.

From sprints to long-distance races, javelin to high jump, the event reflected the county’s rich athletic potential and reaffirmed its place as a hub for sports excellence in the Rift Valley region.

🎤 County Pledges Unwavering Support for Youth and Sports

Madam Jane Wachwenge, Chief Officer for Gender, Youth, Sports and Tourism, officiated the event as Chief Guest, delivering a strong message of support from the county government.

“We remain committed, under the leadership of Governor George Natembeya, to nurturing and promoting the immense talent of the people of Trans Nzoia. Sports play a critical role in empowering our youth,” she said.

She called on teachers and schools to play an active role in spotting and mentoring students with athletic potential early on, emphasizing that a strong foundation at the school level is key to sustained sporting success.

🏟️ New Stadium and Regional Championship Plans

In a much-welcomed announcement, Madam Wachwenge confirmed that the long-awaited Kenyatta Stadium will be fully operational by the end of next year, providing athletes with a state-of-the-art facility for training and competition.

“The county will facilitate training camps for our athletes and offer full support during the regionals,” she added, referring to the upcoming regional championships that will also be held at Ndura Sports Complex.

The county’s proactive approach to both infrastructure and athlete support signals a deliberate move to place Trans Nzoia on the national athletics map.
