Trans Nzoia Marks World Immunization Day with a Call for Collective Action

Trans Nzoia County marked World Immunization Day with renewed commitment to equitable vaccination access, celebrating major milestones while calling for urgent action to reach under-immunized and zero-dose children.

Trans Nzoia County joined the global community in commemorating World Immunization Day at a vibrant event held in Endebess Sub-County. The event was led by the County Director of Medical Services, Dr. Babu Kisang’ani, and aligned with the 2024 global theme:
“Vaccination for All is Humanly Possible.”

Dr. Kisang’ani underscored the life-saving power of vaccines and the county’s commitment to ensuring everyone has access.
🗣️ “Vaccines play a vital role in protecting against diseases. Let’s ensure that no one is left behind,” he said.

He emphasized the collective responsibility of the community in embracing vaccination, stressing that a healthier future is within reach only if everyone takes part in safeguarding themselves and others.

🟢 Key Highlights:
✔️ Immunization is a critical public health tool that saves millions of lives each year.
✔️ Trans Nzoia is nearing national vaccination targets for all antigens.
✔️ Despite progress, zero-dose and under-immunized children remain a concern.
✔️ Immunization services are free in all health facilities across the county.

Celebrating Progress with USAID AMPATH Uzima
USAID AMPATH Uzima Representative, Steve Odima, lauded the county’s strides in immunization coverage since 2021.
🗨️ “Since the partnership began, the county is now close to the national targets — a significant milestone worth celebrating,” he said.

Odima pointed out that the collaboration with USAID AMPATH Uzima has strengthened vaccine delivery systems, boosted public awareness, and improved reporting structures.

However, he also raised critical concerns.

🔍 Zero-Dose & Under-Immunized Children: A Growing Concern
Despite successes, Odima noted the growing challenge of zero-dose children — those who have never received any vaccine.
⚠️ “This is a big challenge for the health sector,” he stated.

He also highlighted the issue of under-immunized children, who have started but not completed their vaccination schedules.
📢 “If, as a county, we can close these gaps, we’ll be in a very strong position nationally,” Odima emphasized.

📣 Community Urged to Act: Vaccines Are Free & Available
Representatives from USAID AMPATH Uzima used the platform to call on all parents and guardians to take advantage of the free immunization services provided across the county.
💬 “Immunizations are available and free at all public health facilities. Take your child, take your neighbor’s child — just make sure no child is left unprotected.”

📌 The Road Ahead
The message from Trans Nzoia was clear:
✔️ Keep the momentum going in vaccine coverage.
✔️ Prioritize hard-to-reach and marginalized groups.
✔️ Strengthen public awareness and trust in vaccines.
✔️ Continue leveraging partnerships for sustainability.

As the World Immunization Day commemoration ended, Trans Nzoia County reaffirmed its vision — a county where every individual, especially every child, is protected through timely and equitable immunization. 💉🌍
