At least 5,000 assorted indigenous tree seedlings and exotic grafted Hass avocado species were distributed yesterday to Motosiet and Cherangany-Suwerwa wards, courtesy of the county government.
The Department of Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change (WENRCC) spearheaded the exercise under the Financing Locally Led Climate Actions (FLLoCA) program.
Members of the Ward Climate Change Planning Committees (WCCPCs) from the respective wards were tasked with issuing the seedlings to the identified beneficiaries as per their earlier submitted proposals.
“This is just a nip in the bud! We have received the seedlings just as the rains are on, and this will catapult their growth as we endeavour to mitigate the effects of climate change,” said Jared Babu, the chairperson of the Cherangany-Suwerwa WCCPC.

Identified beneficiaries in Hospital and Waitaluk wards are set to receive their batch of approximately 5,000 assorted indigenous tree seedlings on Friday afternoon.
