Experts Begin Screening of Proposed FLLoCA Projects in Trans Nzoia County

Environmental experts in Trans Nzoia County initiate screening for FLLoCA water projects, assessing their viability to enhance climate resilience.

A committee of experts in environmental management practices has begun a screening exercise for community-proposed water projects in Trans Nzoia County to scrutinize their viability for implementation.

The team, comprising members of the County Climate Change Unit (CCU), National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), Department of Social Services, and private Environmental Safeguards, started their course in Kinyoro Ward today. They assessed the Saboti Forest water intake, which aims to supply water through pipelines to Teldet, Matisi, Sukura, Kiminini, and Kabuyefwe villages and downstream, targeting over 2,000 families in need of this valuable resource.

The exercise is scheduled to continue across the 25 county wards, and the outcome will determine the projects considered for the World Bank-funded Financing Locally Led Climate Actions (FLLoCA) program. A section of members from the involved communities, led by the Ward Climate Change Planning Committee (WCCPC) Chairperson, participated in the screening process and aired their views and concerns on the proposed project.

The FLLoCA program seeks to mitigate and help communities adapt to the effects of climate change.
