Four Counties Embark on Pediatric Emergency Training

Healthcare providers in Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot, and Elgeyo Marakwet receive critical pediatric emergency training to reduce child mortality, led by ELSMED and Hadassah University Medical Center.

A two-day pediatric emergency medicine training program commenced today in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, aiming to reduce child mortality rates in the region. This initiative, a collaboration between ELSMED healthcare solutions, Hadassah University Medical Center, and the county governments of Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot, and Elgeyo Marakwet, seeks to equip healthcare providers with critical life-saving skills.

“This training is crucial for our medical officers to learn from highly trained Israeli medics,” stated Dr. Judith Simiyu, Trans Nzoia County Chief Officer of Health. “We aim to improve knowledge transfer and enhance medical services, especially for children.”

The training covers a wide range of essential topics, including basic life support protocols, pediatric shock management, cardiovascular emergencies, respiratory emergencies, neurological and neurosurgical emergencies, ultrasound techniques, toxicology, and sedation.

“We identified gaps in pediatric emergency treatment and decided to partner with Hadassah to address this issue,” said Yaron Farachi, CEO of ELSMED Kenya. “We believe that knowledge exchange is essential for improving healthcare worldwide, and this training is a step in the right direction.”

The program brings together selected nurses, clinical officers, and pediatric doctors from the four counties, who will learn from six medical experts from Israel. This collaborative effort aims to enhance the skills of local healthcare providers and ultimately improve pediatric care and reduce child mortality rates in the participating counties.
