Governor George Natembeya today joined Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and mourners at the funeral of Victor Gwaro Ukioma, the former CEO of NACADA, held at Mwencha Teachers College in Kiminini Constituency. Ukioma was celebrated for his dedicated service and lasting contributions to the community.
During his address, Governor Natembeya called for urgent reforms in the education sector, specifically targeting the new university allocation system and the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). “We must ensure that all students have equal opportunities to succeed,” he emphasized, urging immediate actions to address the challenges in the system.

Another pressing issue raised by the governor was the delayed release of funds to county governments, which has created financial strain on counties like Trans Nzoia. Governor Natembeya warned that if the situation persists, counties could face shutdowns, as many are struggling to pay salaries and meet essential obligations. “It’s imperative that the national government releases the funds we’re owed to prevent such a disaster,” he said.
Governor Natembeya’s remarks resonated with the mourners, as he paid tribute to Ukioma’s legacy while also addressing the critical issues affecting the region and the nation.
Other leaders present were the Senator Trans-Nzoia County, Hon Allan Chesang, Senator Richard Onyonka, DAPK Party Leader Hon. Eugene Wamalwa and MCA Lusweti Furaha at Nyabomo, Waitaluk Ward, Kiminini Constituency.
