Governor Natembeya Covers Sh2.8 Million School Fees to Address Performance Gaps

Governor George Natembeya has paid Sh2.8 million in school fees for Muungano Secondary students, aiming to boost retention and improve performance after dismal KCSE results.

Governor George Natembeya has stepped in to support Muungano Secondary School in Kiminini Sub-County, committing Sh2.8 million to cover school fees for students. The intervention comes after the school recorded a poor mean grade of 1.883 in the previous KCSE exams, with 43 students scoring grade E and the top performer achieving a C+.

Governor’s Motivational Address

Speaking to students on Friday evening during a motivational session, the governor emphasized the transformative power of education and encouraged students to rise above past failures.

“Education is the greatest equalizer. You must break the cycle of poor performance and aim for excellence. The stigma of past results should not define your future. Let this year’s candidates focus on rewriting the school’s narrative,” said Natembeya.

He challenged the school community to approach performance improvement collaboratively and reassured students of his administration’s continued support.

Call for Collaboration Among Stakeholders

Governor Natembeya also held discussions with teachers, parents, and the school’s board of management, urging them to adopt a collaborative approach to tackle performance issues. He stressed the importance of classroom engagement, highlighting its critical role in academic success.

“What does one need to do to score an E in KCSE?” the governor asked humorously, drawing laughter from the audience. “We must work together to ensure these results become a thing of the past.”

Challenges Affecting Performance

The school principal, Richard Wanyama, cited various challenges contributing to the poor results, including:

  • High absenteeism rates.
  • Low academic entry behavior.
  • Early pregnancies.
  • Lack of parental involvement.

“Most of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds, which affects their focus on education. However, with the governor’s intervention, we believe we can turn things around,” said Wanyama.

Involvement of Senior County Officials

The event was attended by senior county officials, including:

  • Truphosa Amere, Head of County Public Service.
  • Janerose Mutama, Education and Vocational Training Executive.
  • Samson Ojwang, Health and Sanitation Executive.
  • Sammy Sichangi, Chief Officer for Governance.

Governor Natembeya emphasized the need for a purposive approach, where every stakeholder—teachers, parents, and the community—plays an active role in supporting students.

“We need a unified effort to ensure these setbacks become stepping stones to success,” he concluded.

A Renewed Commitment to Education

This initiative underscores the governor’s commitment to addressing educational challenges in Trans Nzoia. With this intervention, Muungano Secondary School is poised to turn the tide and build a brighter future for its students.
