In his 2024 Mashujaa Day address at Kapkoi RSC Primary School in Kwanza Sub County, Governor George Natembeya highlighted his administration’s achievements in healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure. The governor underscored his dedication to uplifting Trans Nzoia County’s residents while paying homage to Kenya’s heroes, urging the community to unite and foster resilience.
Governor Natembeya discussed initiatives to modernize county government systems, addressing past challenges in human resources by restructuring staff roles and managing the wage bill. “Change we must,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of a skilled and motivated public workforce for effective service delivery.
Healthcare remains a key focus, as evidenced by ongoing staff recruitment and technological advancements. The governor announced plans to hire 200 additional healthcare workers and noted recent upgrades at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital, which include a new CT scanner and an imminent renal unit, both aimed at enhancing local healthcare services.
In the agricultural sector, which significantly drives the county’s economy, Governor Natembeya shared progress in providing free seeds to over 153,000 households and promoting crop diversification. Additionally, his administration established the County Aggregation and Industrial Park, which aims to eliminate middlemen and boost profits for local farmers.
Governor Natembeya also emphasized infrastructure development, pledging improvements to road networks and a targeted 5% increase in electricity connectivity. In response to climate change, he announced plans to plant one million trees annually, reinforcing his commitment to environmental sustainability.

Despite facing financial setbacks, including a potential loss of KES 400 million due to the 2024 Finance Bill’s rejection, Governor Natembeya assured residents of his dedication to quality service delivery. He encouraged tax compliance among citizens to support ongoing development projects.
The Mashujaa Day celebrations concluded with the commissioning of 175 young agripreneurs, who will work alongside local farmers to modernize farming practices and enhance agricultural productivity in the county. Governor Natembeya closed his address by urging unity and resilience, stating, “Let us stand united and face our challenges for a better tomorrow,” and pledged to leave a legacy that future generations would be proud to build upon.
