The Trans Nzoia Governor’s Delivery Unit has begun assessing and documenting stalled projects in Waitaluk Ward following a directive from Governor George Natembeya. The order came after area MCA Furaha Lusweti raised concerns over five incomplete projects, which were initiated during the tenure of former MCA Simon Makhanu in the 2020/2021 financial year.
The stalled projects under review include:
✔️ Lol Keringet ECDE Centre – Work halted after the foundation was dug.
✔️ Mabonde ECDE Centre – Construction progressed to the lintel level before stalling.
✔️ Waitaluk ECDE Centre – Also abandoned at the lintel stage.
✔️ Tulwet Grocery Market – A Ksh 4 million project allegedly paid for, yet incomplete.
✔️ Simatwet Dispensary – Construction remains unfinished.
📌 MCA Lusweti’s complaint highlights concerns over accountability, particularly the alleged payment to a contractor for Tulwet Grocery Market despite the project’s non-completion.
🏫 Impact on Education & Healthcare
At the Mabonde ECDE Centre, headteacher John Walumbe confirmed that work stopped in 2022, leaving 120 pupils without adequate learning space. Similarly, the stalled Simatwet Dispensary has hindered access to healthcare services in the area.
A team comprising Samwel Ereng, Dr. Edward Khaoya, Justin Sitti, and the County Clerk of Works has been dispatched to inspect the projects and report their findings.
Governor Natembeya has set March 10 as the deadline for the assessment team to deliver a detailed report on the reasons behind the stalled developments and propose the next steps.
🗣️ Dr. Khaoya and Mr. Ereng assured the governor that the report will be submitted within the stipulated timeframe.
🛣️ Roads Department Scales Up Infrastructure Development
Meanwhile, the Trans Nzoia County Roads Department continues its robust work in upgrading roads across the county.
🔹 Recently Completed Roads:
✔️ Chematich–AIC Tafina Road (Sitatunga Ward)
✔️ AIC Chematich–Saiwa Road (Sitatunga Ward)

📢 Quality Assurance in Road Projects
The department’s Chief Officer, Eng. Joseph Wasike, has reaffirmed the county’s commitment to high-quality roadwork.
🛠️ “We are maintaining high standards for all our roads. All contractors are aware of our specifications, and we will not accept substandard work,” Eng. Wasike stated.
As Governor Natembeya’s administration tackles both stalled projects and ongoing infrastructure improvements, residents anticipate meaningful development outcomes in the coming months.
