The national government and Trans Nzoia County have launched a joint Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to register residents for Social Health Authority (SHA) services. The collaboration, involving all health stakeholders, was unveiled during a meeting between Governor George Natembeya and Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Debra Barasa at the Governor’s Town Hall in Kitale.
The registration drive will begin mid-next month and last 30 days. Dr. Barasa emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating:
“We are working with the county leadership, MCAs, and Community Health Promoters to ensure as many residents as possible benefit from SHA services.”
Funding and Infrastructure Development
During the meeting, Dr. Barasa assured Governor Natembeya that her ministry would adhere to the presidential directive allocating Ksh 50 million for equipping the Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital.
“I am impressed with how Trans Nzoia is prioritizing health services. Governor, you have my ministry’s 100 percent support,” Dr. Barasa noted.
Governor Natembeya outlined plans to renovate the County Level 4 Hospital, aiming to restore its capacity to offer regional laboratory services, an eye unit, and a cancer center. Decentralizing some services from Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital is also part of the strategy.
