Khalabana, Maridadi Residents to Get Land Ownership Through KISIP2 Project

Khalabana and Maridadi informal settlements in Trans Nzoia County to benefit from land ownership documents through the KISIP2 World Bank-funded project.

Residents of Khalabana and Maridadi informal settlements in Trans Nzoia County are set to benefit from land ownership documents through the ongoing KISIP2 World Bank-funded project.

The project aims to upgrade the informal settlements by providing essential services and securing land tenure for residents.

Spatial Milestone Consultants presented draft plans to the county government’s Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development officials on Tuesday. “The teams have reviewed the draft plans and will present them to the residents of Khalabana tomorrow and Maridadi on Thursday,” said Edith Baraza, the Trans Nzoia County KISIP program coordinator. “Public input is crucial, and after the presentations, any necessary amendments will be made.”

Following public participation, the final draft will be advertised and presented to the county cabinet for adoption before being forwarded to the county assembly for approval. “The Spatial Milestone Consultancy has done commendable work,” said Beatrice Wangila, Director of Physical Planning. “They’ve ensured minimal disruption to residents’ lives while adhering to planning standards.”

The final draft will be published in Kenyan dailies, including the Kenya Gazette, for 60 days to allow for public feedback. After that, it will be presented to the County Executive Member for Lands for cabinet discussion before being sent to the county assembly for approval.

“We are optimistic about the ongoing work,” said Stephen Ngare, lead planner for Spatial Milestone Consultancy. “The team is working diligently to deliver land ownership documents to the residents within the one-year timeframe, fulfilling the KISIP2 project’s mandate in collaboration with the Trans Nzoia County government.”
