KISIP 2 National Project Coordination Team Inspects Infrastructure Progress in Trans Nzoia County

The KISIP 2 National Project Coordination Team visited Trans Nzoia County to assess the progress of key infrastructure projects aimed at improving informal settlements.

The Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP 2) National Project Coordination Team (NPCT) conducted a visit to Trans Nzoia County today to evaluate the progress of crucial infrastructure projects funded by the World Bank and the French Development Agency (AFD). The inspection was carried out in collaboration with the County Project Coordination Team (CPCT).

The visit kicked off with an assessment of the construction camp in Matisi, where Sihaan Contractors are executing significant works. These include the construction of 9.5 kilometers of roads in the informal settlements of Matisi, Tuwan, Mitume, and Shanty. The team also inspected the ongoing establishment of an ablution block and a water kiosk at Kipsongo.

“We are committed to ensuring that these projects are implemented according to contract specifications and delivered within the timelines,” stated Eng. Blanton Gitau, the National Project Coordinator. He highlighted the importance of this infrastructure development for enhancing the growth potential of residents in these informal settlements.

Following this, the NPCT visited the Matisi KeRA Link Road, where construction is currently underway, and proceeded to Kipsongo settlement to verify the designated sites for the new ablution block and water kiosk.

In addition to infrastructure development, the KISIP 2 project is also implementing a land tenure regularization program in Khalabana, Endebess Sub County, and Maridadi, Kwanza Sub County, which is nearing completion.

Ivon Owaye, the NPCT Social Safeguard Coordinator, stressed the importance of timely project completion and worker safety. “Contractors must ensure the safety of workers and manage dust during construction. Any destruction of personal property should be reported immediately for quick management,” she advised.

Trans Nzoia County KISIP 2 Project Coordinator Edith Baraza, along with CPCT member Pamela Indimuli, praised the NPCT for their technical support. “The NPCT’s assistance ensures that project implementation activities are on schedule and comply with World Bank policies and guidelines,” Baraza acknowledged.

The visit concluded with a meeting at the project engineer’s office in Milimani, Kitale, where the teams discussed progress and outlined future steps for the ongoing projects.

The KISIP 2 project continues to play a critical role in improving living conditions in informal settlements across Trans Nzoia County, with a focus on infrastructure, land tenure, and community well-being.
