The County Government of Trans Nzoia is set to assume management of all its estates, except for two, after making a partial debt payment to the National Housing Corporation (NHC). In a significant step towards enhancing housing management and development, the county government will take over the estates once an initial payment of Ksh. 20 million is made towards the total Ksh. 165 million debt, inherited from the defunct Kitale Municipal Council.
During a meeting led by County Secretary Truphosa Amere and NHC representative Bernard Parsoloi, it was agreed that the county’s initial payment would facilitate immediate management takeover of the estates, paving the way for further development. The agreement is scheduled to be signed in a week’s time.
In addition to the payment agreement, Amere and Parsoloi decided to establish a technical committee to foster development and partnership between the two organizations. This collaborative effort aims to streamline processes and ensure efficient estate management.
Speaking during the meeting, CECM for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama, highlighted that this agreement is a critical step in achieving the department’s commitment to providing affordable and decent housing as outlined in the recent performance contract. “This is a roadmap for the department to fulfill one of its key commitments,” she stated.
CEC Lands Janerose Mutama further emphasized that the partnership between the National Housing Corporation and the Department of Lands will ensure the realization of Governor George Natembeya’s agenda of offering better, decent, and affordable housing for the people of Trans Nzoia.











The meeting was also attended by Trans Nzoia County CECM for Finance, Boniface Wanyonyi, Deputy County Secretary George Kisaka, and other county officials, underscoring the county’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of its residents.
