The Kitale Municipality, through the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, has unveiled an ambitious pavement improvement program to repair and replace parking lots, enhancing the town’s functionality and visual appeal.
Acting Municipal Manager Irine Nang’ole emphasized the initiative’s role in restoring Kitale’s former glory, aligning with broader beautification efforts.
“This year, we are committed to ensuring Kitale is clean, beautiful, and a welcoming destination for all,” said Ms. Nang’ole during the program’s launch on Monday.
Key Features of the Improvement Program
- Parking Lot Repairs and Markings: The program aims to repair and organize parking spaces for better accessibility and efficiency.
- Road Markings: These will follow pavement repairs to guide motorists and improve traffic flow.
- Ornamental Trees and Litter Bins: Strategically placed to enhance the town’s aesthetics and promote cleanliness.
“We want motorists to find Kitale town conducive and efficient as they go about their day-to-day activities,” Ms. Nang’ole explained.
Engaging Residents and Combating Vandalism
Ms. Nang’ole called on residents to take ownership of the town’s infrastructure and protect public assets.
“We urge residents to cooperate by safeguarding ornamental trees and litter bins placed for rubbish collection,” she said.
She issued a stern warning to vandals, stating that severe consequences await anyone found destroying public infrastructure.
Addressing the Livestock Menace
Kitale has long faced challenges with stray cattle grazing in urban areas. Ms. Nang’ole announced a tough stance starting in 2025, including the confiscation of stray animals and penalties for owners.
“To curb the livestock menace, we are in the process of formulating bylaws that will address illegal grazing,” she stated.
A Step Towards a Vibrant Future
The pavement improvement program is a vital component of Kitale’s broader strategy to reclaim its reputation as a vibrant, clean, and organized urban hub. With community support and stringent measures, the initiative seeks to position Kitale as a prime destination for both tourists and businesspeople.
