On Friday, Project Management Committee (PMC) members tasked with supervising the implementation of Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) infrastructural projects attended a comprehensive training session.
The committees will play a critical role in monitoring at least 48 climate-smart projects in their respective communities once contractors are selected through the tendering process.
The daylong training, held at the Kitale National Museums of Kenya, was graced by County Executive Bonface Wanyonyi (Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change) and Chief Officer Dorothy Nyukuri, emphasizing the county’s commitment to transparent and effective project execution.
Integrity and Excellence Emphasized
Speaking during the event, Mr. Wanyonyi called on PMC members to prioritize integrity in their oversight roles.
“Exercise utmost integrity to ensure the communities receive the best. Avoid being compromised by contractors who might deliver substandard work,” he urged.
Ms. Nyukuri echoed these sentiments, pledging departmental support for the committees and encouraging them to ensure contractors meet the highest standards.
“You hold a pivotal role in serving your communities. Let excellence guide you in ensuring quality delivery,” she said.
Key Insights and Appointments
The training was led by Climate Change Unit (CCU) Focal Person Godfrey Wekesa, who provided practical guidance to the 25 ward-based PMC members.
Participants also benefited from contractors’ insights, learning from their extensive experience in community-driven projects.
To formalize their roles, all elected PMC members received their appointment letters from the County Executive.
Looking Ahead
With the training completed, the PMC members are now prepared to oversee the implementation of climate-smart initiatives, which aim to address pressing environmental challenges while fostering sustainable development. The FLLoCA projects promise to make a lasting impact across Trans Nzoia County.
