Residents of Tima in Kaplamai Ward, Cherangany Sub-County, have received a major boost in water access following the commissioning of a Kes 3.7 million solar-powered water project by the County Government of Trans Nzoia.
The project, implemented by the Department of Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change (WENRCC), aims to alleviate persistent water shortages and ensure a reliable supply of clean and safe water to the local community.
📢 “As a department, we are committed to enhancing access to clean and safe water for county residents. We are pleased to report that we have significantly increased water coverage and continue to expand our efforts,” said Chief Officer Dorothy Nyukuri.
📌 Fulfilling the Governor’s Water Agenda
The initiative aligns with Governor George Natembeya’s campaign pledge to improve access to clean water across the county. His administration has prioritized solarized boreholes and pipeline extensions as sustainable solutions to address water scarcity.
🔹 The new solar-powered borehole will provide a steady supply of water to hundreds of households.
🔹 It reduces reliance on traditional water sources, improving hygiene and sanitation.
🔹 The project will also benefit schools, businesses, and community institutions in Tima.
On Monday, water began flowing from taps following the commissioning of the project. The event was attended by officers from WENRCC, alongside Kaplamai Ward MCA Daniel Mosbei.
🚰 “This project is a game-changer for our people. For years, we have struggled with water shortages, but today marks a new beginning,” said MCA Mosbei.
