Stakeholders Provide Input on Trans Nzoia County Finance Bill 2024/2025

Representatives from various sectors have voiced their views on the Trans Nzoia County Finance Bill 2024/2025, with focus on harmonizing the bill for residents' benefit.

Representatives from diverse sectors of the economy actively participated in a public forum on the proposed Trans Nzoia County Finance Bill 2024/2025, held at the Kitale Museums Hall on Monday. The large audience paid close attention to the details of the proposed bill, taking turns to interrogate and discuss its contents with the aim of harmonizing the provisions for the benefit of county residents.

The forum revealed that only a few areas had incremental amendments compared to the previous financial year, with most rates remaining constant—a development that was met with relief by residents and traders alike.

One of the notable changes that received widespread public approval was the reduction in bodaboda sticker levies, which saw a significant drop from Ksh 3,600 to Ksh 500 annually. This adjustment was particularly welcomed by the bodaboda operators, who had previously voiced concerns over the higher levy.

The public participation exercise was led by County Executives Bonfas Wanyonyi (Finance & Economic Planning), Sam Ojwang (Health and Sanitation), and Patrick Gacheru (Trade & Industry). They were supported by Chief Officers Dr. Judith Simiyu (Health & Sanitation) and Emmanuel Masungo (Finance & Economic Planning), as well as Chief of Staff Dickson Wamocho and Director of Revenue Beatrice Buchunju.

Mr. Wanyonyi assured participants that their input would be seriously considered in the finalization of the bill, emphasizing that the process aims to incorporate the views of the general public on taxation to ensure effective funding for government service delivery.
