The Department of Education and Vocational Training in Trans Nzoia County has received assorted teaching materials for more than 452 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres across the county.
The initiative is expected to improve the quality of learning and provide young learners with a stronger educational foundation through access to standard teaching and learning resources.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, County Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training, Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama, said the materials will greatly support teachers and learners in ECDE centres.
“This is going to boost learning across the county. For quite some time, teachers had no standard teaching ideas, but now pupils will get the best education foundation,” she said.
County Prioritizing Early Childhood Education
Ms. Mutama credited Governor George Natembeya’s administration for increasing budgetary allocations toward ECDE and vocational training institutions.
She emphasized that supporting early childhood education remains a key priority for the county government as part of efforts to strengthen foundational learning.
“The governor has immensely increased budgetary allocations for ECDEs and vocational training centres. It is our mandate as a county government to handle these functions and ensure learners get the best learning environment,” she added.
The CEC also confirmed that 23 ECDE teachers who had previously been shortlisted are expected to receive employment letters soon.
In addition, the county plans to recruit more ECDE teachers in the next financial year to address staffing shortages and reduce the pupil-teacher ratio in learning institutions.
🟢 Key Education Support Initiatives:
✔️ Distribution of teaching and learning materials
✔️ Increased ECDE budget allocations
✔️ Recruitment of additional ECDE teachers
✔️ Improved classroom learning environment
✔️ Support for vocational training institutions
Learning Materials Expected to Increase Enrolment
County Director of Early Childhood Education, Peter Omonya, said the county will also distribute exercise books, pencils, and chalk to support learning activities in ECDE centres.
According to Omonya, poverty has remained one of the major barriers affecting school attendance among young learners, but the provision of free learning materials is already helping improve enrolment.
The county believes the initiative will ease the burden on parents and teachers while encouraging more children to attend school consistently.
Deputy County Director of Education Pacifica Ochichi welcomed the programme, saying the teaching aids and recruitment of more teachers will significantly improve education standards across the county.
“This is going to give ECDE pupils the best foundation for their future,” she said.

Education officials described the distribution exercise as an important milestone in strengthening early childhood education and ensuring all learners access quality learning opportunities regardless of their background.
