The Trans Nzoia County Assembly Committee on Education has affirmed its full support for the establishment of a public university within the county, signaling a significant step forward in the initiative’s progress. This commitment was solidified during a productive meeting between the committee and the county’s university taskforce, headed by Professor Masibo Lumala.
Chairing the committee, Saboti Ward MCA Boniface Cheloti reiterated the assembly’s steadfast backing for the university project. He emphasized the transformative impact such an institution could have on both the local economy and social fabric, drawing parallels with similar developments witnessed in other regions.
Adding to Cheloti’s remarks, Furaha Lusweti, MCA for Waitaluk Ward, highlighted the historical precedent of universities serving as catalysts for revitalization in their surrounding areas. Lusweti urged all county political leaders to rally behind this “people-driven” initiative, recognizing its potential to benefit communities across Trans Nzoia.
Professor Lumala, chairperson of the university taskforce, assured an inclusive approach to the project. He emphasized the team’s commitment to engaging all relevant stakeholders, including political and religious leaders, to ensure the university’s vision aligns with the needs and aspirations of the entire community.
The taskforce, comprising esteemed individuals such as Professor Battan Khaemba, Professor Caleb Elung’ata, Dr. Hellen Yego (Vice-Chairperson), Dr. David Wafula Lwangale, youth representative Hosea Sismat Chemche, Dr. Julie Magomere, Professor Bulitia, Julius Kivase, Eliud Wakasiaka Mwichabe (secretary), and Alfred Mang’oli Namwitako, stands poised to drive this transformative initiative forward.
