Trans Nzoia County CEC Commends KISIP2 Infrastructure Project Amid Challenging Weather Conditions

Trans Nzoia's CEC for Lands, Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama, praises the progress of the KISIP2 infrastructure project despite weather challenges, emphasizing timely completion and community benefits.

The Trans Nzoia County Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama, has commended the progress of the infrastructure development project being carried out under the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project Phase 2 (KISIP2). Funded by the National Government, County Government, International Development Association (IDA), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the World Bank, the project aims to enhance living conditions in the county through essential infrastructure improvements.

During a site tour and the monthly progress review meeting, CEC Mutama acknowledged the resilience demonstrated by the project amidst challenging weather conditions. “Despite the continuous rains in the county, the progress of the works is commendable,” said Mutama. “We are hoping the rains will subside soon so we can see greater strides in the project’s completion. From the County Government’s perspective, we are emphasizing timely completion as our main priority.”

Mutama reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to supporting the project’s timely delivery, ensuring it meets the stipulated contract timelines. The infrastructure initiative includes the construction of roads, water pipelines, and other key facilities, aimed at elevating the quality of life for the residents of Trans Nzoia.

In her remarks, the CEC highlighted the readiness to begin the construction of the Kipsongo ablution block and a water kiosk, noting that the space for the contractor has already been secured. “We expect works to commence as early as next week,” she added.

The project is expected to benefit numerous households across the county. A representative from the County Project Coordination Team (CPCT) in the Department of Water shared that over 20 residents along the Kerra-Link Road have expressed interest in connecting to the new water supply network. “This is impressive, and there are high expectations for more homes to access clean and safe water through the KISIP2 World Bank-funded project,” the CPCT representative stated.

Additionally, the CPCT representative proposed the establishment of more water kiosks along the pipeline to support community members who may not afford direct connections or monthly water bills. “With as little as 20 shillings per 20-litre container, residents will still have access to clean water, addressing affordability issues,” the official noted.

Martin Maina, the contractor’s site engineer, provided an update on the road construction progress. “We are currently focusing on setting centreline and referencing points, alongside routine checks on the earthwork levels for roads such as the KERRA Link Road, Kiberenge St John’s Road, Sokomoko Road, Mitume Usafi Road, Mitume Hospital Road, Mitume Apostolic Road, and Umoja Link Road,” he said.

Maina reported that site clearance, topsoil stripping, excavation, and formation works have begun on Usafi Road, with similar activities underway on other roads. He added that significant progress has been made on the water supply pipeline construction on the KERRA Link and Usafi Roads, with excavation, laying, jointing, and pressure testing completed across multiple sections.

The ongoing infrastructure development aims to provide improved access to clean water, better roads, and essential facilities, contributing to the overall socio-economic upliftment of Trans Nzoia County residents.
