The Trans Nzoia County Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, under the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project Phase 2 (KISIP 2), held public consultations today with residents from Maridadi and Khalabana informal settlements. The discussions centered on the upcoming land tenure regularisation project in Kwanza and Endebess Sub Counties.
KISIP 2 Project Coordinator Edith Baraza and Diana Modani led the meetings, briefing Project Affected Persons (PAPs) on the World Bank’s requirements for those impacted by the project. “The County Government is committed to facilitating the relocation of affected persons to ensure the smooth progression of the project,” Baraza explained.
The sessions highlighted the World Bank’s procedures for relocation, assuring residents that they would receive the necessary support throughout the process. Modani emphasized the importance of community understanding, stating, “We are here to ensure that the community understands the procedures and receives the necessary support.”
Spatial Milestone Kenya Limited, the consultancy firm managing the land tenure regularisation, captured data on affected individuals and committed to continued consultations. These follow-up meetings will outline detailed relocation plans, ensuring smooth progress for the project and safeguarding residents’ rights.
