Trans Nzoia County has received 758,000 mosquito nets, which will be distributed across the county over the next ten days. The distribution was presided over by County Secretary Truphosa Amere, Health CEC Sam Ojwang, and senior Ministry of Health official Mawira Mungania.
During the official launch on Friday, the County Secretary urged residents to participate in large numbers by ensuring their availability to receive the nets. She assured them that the mosquito nets are safe for use and cautioned against using them for fishing or fencing crop gardens. “It is unfortunate that some of you use the nets for fishing while others use them for fencing crop gardens. We should stop this practice if we want to eradicate malaria from our communities,” she said.
Mungania stated that ICT officers will be part of the distribution team to ensure accountability. The officers will also ensure that the registered residents receive the nets.
The area Chief Officer for Health, Dr. Judith Simiyu, indicated that the county has a malaria prevalence rate of over 1%, with a positivity rate of 21%, necessitating serious interventions. She highlighted that Saboti, Kwanza, and Endebess are the most affected areas in the county. She also emphasized that swampy areas such as Namanjalala, Marinda, Kobos, and Maridadi should be prioritized.

Dr. Simiyu requested the National Government to consider providing additional nets to Trans Nzoia, noting that the number of applicants surpasses the number of nets received. Health CECM Sam Ojwang and his water counterpart Pepela Wanjala were also present during the event.
