The Trans Nzoia County Government has received a donation of 20 dialysis machines and health equipment valued at Kes 100 million from Timo Bellman, a German philanthropist, and his wife. Governor George Natembeya accepted the donation at the Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to advancing healthcare services in the county.
This donation significantly boosts the hospital’s dialysis capacity, adding to the four machines previously acquired. Governor Natembeya expressed gratitude to Mr. Bellman and his supporters for their generosity, noting that the new equipment would improve kidney care and reduce the need for patients to travel outside the county for renal services.
“These machines will play a crucial role in preventing deaths related to kidney failure, allowing patients to receive essential care within Trans Nzoia,” Natembeya remarked. He also mentioned that specialized training would be provided to medical staff to operate the new equipment, ensuring efficient and high-quality care.
Additional health facilities have been bolstered with 10 new hospital beds, a concentrate mixing device, dialysis water treatment systems, and more. This equipment will strengthen Trans Nzoia’s healthcare capabilities, helping fulfill the governor’s pledge to elevate healthcare standards.
Governor Natembeya encouraged residents to enroll in the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) to mitigate high healthcare costs. Health Committee Chair Sarah Lubano commended the governor’s partnerships that have brought numerous donations, including MRI, CT scanners, blood analysis machines, and mortuary facilities.
County officials present at the event included CECM Health and Sanitation Sam Ojwang, Chief Officer Dr. Judith Baraza, and other leaders, all affirming their dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery across Trans Nzoia.
