Trans Nzoia County is actively pursuing financial support for climate action initiatives through its participation in the KFW Co-Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FlloCA) program. Representing Governor George Natembeya at an intergovernmental participatory agreement meeting for the Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) counties, Samson Ojwang, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Environment, and Climate Change, highlighted the importance of FlloCA programs for Trans Nzoia.
In his keynote address, Mr. Ojwang emphasized the significance of securing funding through the FlloCA program to address pressing climate challenges in the county. He outlined several key priorities that Trans Nzoia hopes to address with the funding. These priorities include empowering women’s groups to participate in climate action initiatives, rehabilitating wetlands to enhance ecosystem resilience, implementing afforestation projects to mitigate climate change impacts, reducing poverty rates through sustainable development programs, and constructing 25 boreholes, one per ward, to improve access to clean water.

Mr. Ojwang further elaborated on plans to utilize the funds for tree planting initiatives aimed at conserving Trans Nzoia’s crucial water towers, including the Cherangany Hills and Mount Elgon. He reiterated Governor Natembeya’s administration’s commitment to supporting valuable partner-driven programs to ensure that Trans Nzoia residents benefit from the FlloCA initiative.
The intergovernmental participatory agreement meeting, officially opened by Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, Professor Njuguna Ndugu, focused on this year’s theme: “Transfer of Climate Resilient Technology under the FlloCA.” It provided an opportunity for county representatives to discuss strategies for leveraging funding and resources to address climate challenges effectively.
