Trans Nzoia County Transfers Solid Waste Management to Kitale Municipality Board

Trans Nzoia County has officially transferred solid waste management to the Kitale Municipality Board, aiming to enhance environmental sustainability and cleanliness.

In a strategic move aimed at improving environmental sustainability, Trans Nzoia County has transferred the solid waste management unit from the Department of Water, Environment, and Natural Resources to the Kitale Municipality Board under the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development.

During the handover ceremony, County Secretary Truphosa Amere emphasized the importance of this transfer in achieving the county’s broader development goals. Amere drew parallels to Singapore’s model of cleanliness and environmental sustainability, expressing hope for Kitale to follow suit. “If the Governor is to achieve his vision of a transformed Trans Nzoia, the people in this department will be at the forefront,” she stated, adding that “a clean environment leads to a clean consciousness and clean governance.”

Amere encouraged the staff to take pride in their roles and strive for excellence, while also reaffirming her support for the Kitale Municipality Board’s initiatives to maintain the town’s cleanliness and overall environment.

Dr. Joseph Pepelah, the CEC for Water, Environment, and Natural Resources, highlighted the county’s ongoing partnership with the Israeli government on solid waste management and called for increased funding to ensure the success of these initiatives.

Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama, the CEC for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, welcomed the transfer, urging the department’s staff to work diligently to transform Kitale into a cleaner and more attractive town. She reiterated the importance of collective efforts in realizing this vision, promising her department’s full support.

This transfer is seen as a crucial step toward improving waste management and enhancing the quality of life in Kitale.
