Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has taken a significant step toward boosting the county’s economy by signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). The agreement, signed today at the county headquarters, is designed to enhance Trans Nzoia’s participation in the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector.
The partnership is set to stimulate economic growth in Trans Nzoia by attracting more conferences and social events to the county, leveraging the expertise and resources of KICC. Governor Natembeya highlighted the potential benefits of this collaboration, stating, “Trans Nzoia is ripe for investments, especially in conferencing. This partnership with KICC will open more opportunities for our county.”
Known as Kenya’s breadbasket, Trans Nzoia stands to gain substantially from the MICE industry, which can drive economic growth by attracting business tourism and fostering infrastructure development. The county also has the opportunity to showcase its tourism attractions to a broader audience, promoting both domestic and international tourism.

“We have strong agricultural exhibitions and conferences that bring together experts, investors, and industry players,” Natembeya added, pointing to the county’s existing strengths in the sector.
Governor Natembeya also emphasized the county’s vast opportunities, including its two water towers and the scenic Mt. Elgon National Park. He mentioned the ongoing renovation and expansion of the Kitale National Museum as part of efforts to enhance revenue collection and improve the facility to attract more visitors. “This collaboration will link us with other national and international organizations,” he noted.
James Mwaura, CEO of KICC, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “Counties will now be hosting MICE events by bidding, which will open up opportunities, especially in economic growth, further boosting the county’s status.”
This MOU marks a significant milestone for Trans Nzoia County, positioning it to become a key player in Kenya’s growing MICE sector and driving long-term economic benefits for its residents.
