Trans Nzoia Residents Provide Input on 2025-2026 Development Plan

Saboti residents call for improved agricultural services, market development, healthcare upgrades, and title deed assistance during Trans Nzoia County's public participation forum for the 2025-2026 development plan.

Residents of Saboti have voiced their concerns and recommendations for the County’s 2025-2026 development plan, focusing on agriculture, healthcare, market development, education, and land ownership. During a public participation forum, attendees urged the county government to prioritize timely access to farm inputs, provide artificial insemination services, and support fish farming initiatives for the region’s dams.

Community members, including Cosmas Wasike, Michael Nyongesa, Emily Wanyonyi, and Emmanuel Kiplimo, emphasized the importance of enhancing agricultural services and healthcare facilities. They called for increased budget allocations for medical personnel and upgrades to local dispensaries to health center status.

Songoi Mike appealed to the county government for assistance in helping Mengo farm owners acquire title deeds, which would significantly increase the land’s value. He also highlighted the need for youth mentorship programs to provide local role models and reduce joblessness and idleness among the youth.

The forum was led by Agriculture CECM Phanice Khatundi, Trade Chief Officer Omari Ndiema, and Education Chief Officer Omari Ndiema. Khatundi revealed that the county has allocated Ksh. 10 million for a disease control program and announced the deployment of 50 new extension officers, with two assigned to each ward, to improve agricultural services. She also noted that efforts are underway to identify fish farmers in the county to support the growth of fish farming.

Similar public participation exercises were conducted across all sub-counties. In Cherangany, Chief Officers Dr. Emmanuel Wanjala and Dorothy Nyukuri led the discussions, where residents called for improved auction yards and water distribution. In Kiminini, Health CEC Sam Ojwang led the team, while in Kwanza, Gender CECM Stanley Kirui and Lands Chief Officer Dr. Roselyne Nasiebanda spearheaded the forum.

The county government is expected to review the residents’ input as part of the development planning process for the upcoming financial year, ensuring that the public’s concerns are addressed in the final plan.
