Trans Nzoia Youths to Receive Business Grants; CHPs Assured Full-Year Payments

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya announces youth business grants, pledges timely payments for Community Health Promoters (CHPs), and addresses pressing community issues during a Kikao gathering in Kapomboi Ward.

In a bid to uplift the economic status of Trans Nzoia’s youthful population, Governor George Natembeya has announced plans to roll out business grants for young entrepreneurs. Speaking at a Kikao gathering in Liyavo, Kapomboi Ward, the governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to fostering economic growth and addressing community concerns.

Community Engagement and Leadership Accountability

The event was attended by residents from Rwanda, Bosnia, Huruma, Namanjalala, and Zea, who shared their grievances about local leadership. Responding to these concerns, Governor Natembeya outlined several measures aimed at improving livelihoods, including:

  1. Title Deeds Fund: Facilitating the acquisition of essential land ownership documents.
  2. Education Certificates: Mandating the release of students’ certificates being held by secondary schools due to unpaid fees, citing it as unlawful.
  3. Market Allocation: Reserving 30% of business stalls at the Kitale market for individuals from rural areas to promote inclusivity.
  4. Security and Infrastructure: Collaborating with agencies to improve security, register business names for tender eligibility, and enhance electricity access.
  5. Road Repairs: Engaging with West Kenya Sugar Company to rehabilitate roads damaged by cane transportation.

Support for Community Health Promoters (CHPs)

Governor Natembeya assured residents that Community Health Promoters (CHPs) would receive their pending payments for the entire year without further delays.

“Going forward, there will be no further delays,” he promised.

Residents commended the government for equipping CHPs with drugs, mobile phones, and uniforms but raised concerns about poor road networks, limited power connectivity, and inadequate shelter for persons with disabilities.

County Leadership in Attendance

The event was graced by key county leaders, including:

  • Kwanza MCA: Sarah Lubano
  • County Secretary: Truphosa Amere
  • CECMs: Sam Ojwang (Health), Patrick Gacheru (Trade), Boniface Wanyonyi (Environment), Phanice Khatundi (Agriculture), and Jackson Amboka (Education)
  • Chief Officers: Sammy Sichangi, Philip Kapten, Patrick Osoro, and Roselyne Nasiebanda

Other notable attendees included Political Affairs Director Joshua Werunga, Communications Director Dr. Felix Sialo, and other government employees.

Residents’ Voices

Community members such as Moses Malenya, Eliud Wanyama, and Sylvester Wekesa expressed their appreciation for the government’s initiatives while urging for more efforts to address infrastructure and social challenges.

With initiatives like business grants, infrastructure improvements, and support for health promoters, Governor Natembeya’s administration seeks to position Trans Nzoia as a beacon of economic and social development.
