The Ukombozi Milk Program has officially been relaunched in Trans Nzoia County, bringing joy to parents, teachers, and pupils alike. Spearheaded by Governor George Natembeya and his team, the initiative promises to improve nutrition, health, and school attendance for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners.
A Milestone in Child Welfare
The relaunch took place in multiple venues across the county, with key events held in Kwanza Sub County. At Bungoma Primary School in Kapomboi Ward, Agriculture and Irrigation Chief Officer Patrick Osoro led the exercise, where 60 ECDE pupils received their first servings of milk under the program.
Osoro reiterated Governor Natembeya’s commitment to fulfilling his manifesto, emphasizing that the milk will be distributed twice weekly and must be consumed on school premises.
“This program supports our children’s health and education. Governor Natembeya is dedicated to delivering on his promises, and this initiative is proof of that,” he said.
Community Cooperation Essential
Osoro called on parents and the wider community to support the county administration’s efforts, ensuring the success of such programs.
“For the county to deliver better services, your cooperation is critical. Together, we can achieve more for our children and future generations,” he added.
Support from Key Stakeholders
Accompanying Osoro was Gender Advisor Emmanuel Waswa, who echoed the administration’s dedication to grassroots engagement.
“This program is a testament to the county’s commitment to child welfare. We will continue working closely with communities to enhance service delivery,” Waswa stated.
A Welcome Return for Parents and Pupils
The program’s return after a temporary pause was met with enthusiasm from parents, who see it as a vital support mechanism. By boosting nutrition and retention, the milk program addresses key challenges faced by ECDE learners.
“This is not just milk; it’s an investment in the future of our children,” said a delighted parent during the launch.
The Ukombozi Milk Program underscores Governor Natembeya’s focus on child development, nutrition, and education, setting a strong foundation for the county’s youngest learners to thrive.
