The County Climate Change Unit (CCU), under the Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change (WENRCC) department, has launched a workshop aimed at sensitizing Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) about the Financing Locally Led Climate Actions (FLLoCA) program.
Leadership and Framework
The initiative was led by County Executive Boniface Wanyonyi and Chief Officer Dorothy Nyukuri. Discussions focused on the progress and goals of the FLLoCA program, with an emphasis on implementing community-driven climate adaptation and resilience projects.
Key Topics Addressed
The workshop highlighted several critical areas:
- Overview of Climate Change: Providing MCAs with foundational knowledge on climate issues.
- Participatory Climate Risk Assessment (PCRA): A review of methods to identify local vulnerabilities.
- Climate Change Adaptation Plan (CCAP 2023-2027): Strategies to guide sustainable climate actions.
Strengthening Partnerships
Held at the Mabanga Farmers Training Center in Bungoma County starting November 19, the workshop is designed to enhance cooperation between the Executive and the County Assembly. This collaboration is essential to addressing climate challenges effectively.
Interactive Engagement
MCAs actively participated in discussions, raising critical points for inclusion in county strategies. These dialogues enriched the workshop, making it both educational and strategic for advancing local climate resilience.
Global Alignment
The workshop aligns with global climate priorities being discussed at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. A shared sentiment echoed at the conference emphasized that:
“Climate education is essential to equip people with the skills and knowledge required to drive meaningful climate action.”
The workshop represents a significant step toward equipping local leaders with the tools necessary to address pressing environmental challenges.
